Lessons for England Team to Learn from 2017 – 2018 Ashes

The England VS Australia test cricket is at its best. The first test results are out and they look to favor Australia. England cricket team is failing to impress selectors or the crowd at home. Therefore, it has to learn and apply lessons for the 2017- 2018 Ashes Series. Furthermore, if it fails to improve, we may be seeing another whitewash.

Lessons, England Cricket Team Should Learn!

Here are some weak areas to improve the England vs Australia.

Poor Batting Performance

England VS Australia first test seems to be a one-sided affair. Therefore, England cricket team will have to do something extra to come out of this bad patch.

1st Innings of England

The first inning does seem to show some batting performances. Therefore, we can see some spine from Stoneman and Vince. Furthermore, decent runs addition by Malan and Ali did add to the total. However, apart from that, there is no depth that we can see in the first match of Ashes test series. The Ashes did start strong for the Australian team. However, we cannot say the same for the opposition putting a decent first innings total of 302.

1st Innings of Australia

Australia did come back strong and were able to defend the total. However, they could not come into the leading position. Thanks to some amazing bowling contributions by everyone. The first innings of Australia still does show a lot of character despite the struggle. England bowlers could make their impact in the first innings. However, the story remains different when it comes to the second innings. David Warner could not add much in the first innings. The team could still make a reasonable 328 runs.

2nd Innings of England

The second innings has a lot for the English to learn. Furthermore the test match became one-sided in the 2nd innings. Thanks to some fantastic test cricket bowling, England could not add a lot with bat. Besides some batting contributions by Ali and and Bairstow, there is not much exciting to discuss. The collapse of the top batting order speaks volumes about the lack of preparation by the English batsmen. Starc, Hazlewood, and Lyon did the maximum damage. They got the batsmen out on regular intervals. A total of just 195 runs would never provide any chance to the bowlers.

2nd Innings of Australia

Well, Bancroft and Warner made it look so easy. It would hardly give the opposition any chance to come back into the game. There is a lot of bowling in English team but none of the bowlers could impress.

Weak Areas of the English Cricket Team

Despite tough cricket schedule, it is about grabbing chances and making the most out of the available opportunities. However, English cricket team players would have to do something extraordinary to create a chance of winning a game.

The batting lacks depth and any character. Furthermore, poor shot selection and giving away wickets on regular wickets won’t help. Therefore, the English cricket team must have to come up strong in batting to stand a chance.

Similarly, there are a lot of improvements needed in the bowling area. The England bowlers would have to come up with some extraordinary spells. They would have to put pressure on the opposition to create more chances.

England will have to come up with a positive frame of mind and ensure that it does not miss any critical chances. Else, we know what Australian test team can do in the Ashes.
